Jesse Campbell's Updates June 2015

Luhmuhlen CCI4*

Luhmuhlen in Germany was such an incredible event for me where both my horses, Kaapachino in the CCI4* and Amsterdam in the CIC3*, were just brilliant. It was my first four star event and it more than surpassed my expectations.
Kaapachino had been pulled out of Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials in May with a serious bacterial infection, but we got him back on track and he felt absolutely incredible. He performed one of the best dressage tests of his life, which put us in sixth place. He then cruised around the cross country course like a machine, loving every minute of it to finish bang on the optimum time. It was great to receive a pair of boots, generousy sponsored by Ariat, for achieving this.
The showjumping didn’t quite go to plan but Kaapy still tried his hardest and we finished in a very solid 16th place. I am so lucky to have this horse and he always gives 110%.

Amsterdam continues to really impress me. He was stunning across country and then jumped a beautiful and faultless clear in the showjumping. He has four star written all over him and we will continue to campaign him very carefully with the bigger picture in mind.

Thank you Derriere

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Derriere Equestrian for your continued support. Without a doubt Derriere Equestrian breeches and pants have enhanced my performances. Their fit and comfort is exceptional. I noticed this especially when I competed four horses recently at Houghton International. I am a very proud Derriere Equestrian ambassador and thoroughly recommend Derriere pants and breeches to all riders.

Barbury Castle International

My next event is Barbury Castle International which takes place from July 9 – 12.

Cleveland and Apart VD Hoefslag Z will both run in the CIC**  and Amsterdam II in the CIC***.

The Perineal / Ischial Area of the Horse Rider & Associated Back Pain

Back problems are civilization’s number 1 ailment. About 80-90% of people in Western industrial nations have suffered from back pain at least once in their lives. Horse riders are not exempt from these ailments, so Derriere Equestrian are here to help! Riders frequently complain about back pain. From one study it has been reported that 23.8% have back pain while riding, and 55.2% after riding.

There are various reasons for back pains. While riding, back pain may come from the increased axial load on the back during the various gaits and from incorrect posture. It is possible to assist in preventing incorrect posture with the use of the Derriere Equestrian Padded Support System technology that is incorporated into the underwear.
The spinal column plays an important role in the interaction between the horse and the rider. Just sitting on a horse, let alone riding in the various gaits, puts a strain on the entire spinal column and all the muscles and ligaments. Riding with the necessary pelvis movements, leg pressure, the rapid reactions to the horse’s movements, and the rider’s sitting posture; requires constant and dynamic use of the musculoskeletal system. The cushioning and support  provided by the Derriere Equestrian Padded Support System has made a considerable difference to many riders lives and time spent in the saddle.

With a good technique and correct sitting posture, riding can be beneficial for the spinal column. The correct riding posture corresponds to the natural upright sitting posture. Learning the appropriate posture in riding accounts for a natural straight way of sitting on a horse.

Anatomy and saddle

When sitting on the horse, and even more so when riding, the force exerted on the spinal column flows mainly through the ischial bones. The ischial bone joins the pubic bone further to the front and forms the minor pelvic girdle. The soft tissue between the ischial bones and the pubic bone is extremely sensitive to pressure and pain. The average spacing between the ischial bones is 9-11 cm in men and 10-12 cm in women. We have some fascinating research to release on spacing and sizing for different size's, keep an eye on our website for more news:www.derriereequestrian.com

The Perineal / Ischial Area of the rider is associated with compression and friction of the anatomy when in the saddle. The perineal area is bordered by the pubic symphysis at the front, the coccyx below and by the two ischial tuberosities on either side. The two bones detectable beneath the gluteal muscles are the ischial tuberosities.
All Derriere Equestrian underwear is designed to ensure protection of these areas for both the male & female rider, without causing any bulking or restriction of movement.
This video shows us clearly how the movement of the horse in their different gait's; walk, trot and gallop has a direct influence in the musculoskeletal system of the horse rider.
Fabulous illustration that certainly highlights why we all ride in "Derriere's"! When viewing, keep a close eye on the ischial tuberosities the Derriere Equestrian Padded Support System ensures full protection of these anatomical landmarks and ultimate comfort for the rider.

Jesse Campbell's Latest News

I was so pleased with my four horses at Houghton International. Kaapachino, the most experienced of my horses,  was back to his consistent best and the other three once again showed their world class potential. I couldn’t be more happy.

Talking Point was awesome. Despite heading into the dressage arena during the most torrential downpour, he held it together really well to perform the best test he has ever done.
Cross country he was brilliant. It’s the first time I have really pushed him and he made it feel so easy. He has such a big engine and just cruised all the way.  He finished the day with a clear showjumping to give us fourth place in the CCI2*.

Cleveland was the first to go in the CCI2* dressage and did a really classy test. Although you could argue that had he gone later he would possible have benefited in the marking, his flat work is exceptional and I was pleased. Across country we had a glance off at an arrow head which was also part of the 3* course but when I represented him, he locked on and jumped it beautifully before jumping clear showjumping. He’s a top level horse for the future and at only eight years old, he will have come on leaps and bounds from his Houghton experience.

Amsterdam was incredible in the CIC3*. His dressage is improving all the time. We’re focusing on establishing very firm foundations so while his test was very accurate, I didn’t at this stage ask for any power which will come later. He then jumped a beautiful double clear giving me an incredible spin across country. His next competition is Luhmuhlen CIC3*.

Kaapachino loved every single second of his cross country in the CIC3* and gave me such a great ride around. He was so happy he felt awesome. He was a little tense in his dressage and had a fence down showjumping, and another pole too which was really unlucky but not his fault at all. He’s such a champion.

I will be taking some of my younger horses to Ascott under Wychwood on June 6 and Berkshire College on June 13, and then, on Monday, June 15, leave for Luhmuhlen with Kaapachino and Amsterdam.
