News and views from across the pond
United States of America
America’s The Dressage Connection, based in
Florida, became a new, prestigious international Derriere Equestrian stockist in January 2017; the
business has a bricks-and-mortar saddlery store, an impressive online portal,
and also exhibits at shows including the Global Dressage Festival with a
well-stocked mobile unit of competition essentials.
An ideal match
The introduction was made by
Kitty Garrity of Smith-Garrity, Ltd, who specialises in the marketing and
distribution of premium branded equestrian products.
“Derriere Equestrian is
the perfect ‘fit’ for The Dressage Connection, as Derriere’s undergarments and
breeches are highly engineered and well-produced, and are the ideal match for
the American firm’s well-informed clientele,” Kitty says.
“Good fit and high quality is always a top priority...”
We asked Michelle Donn of The
Dressage Connection to share her thoughts about current equestrian retail
trends, as we move ahead into spring and summer; she explains that the saddlery
is notably renowned for finding solutions for men looking for the perfect pair
of breeches.
“We pride ourselves on be the go-to source
for many of the top male dressage professionals in Wellington, Florida - most
of our male customers special order their breeches with us in basic colours and
styles that never really go out of fashion,” Michelle explains. “Good fit and
high quality is always a top priority where breeches are concerned.”
A signature look
Across the pond, Michelle says that in the ‘boots,
bridles and saddles’ sphere, their saddlery is seeing lots of customers who are
focused on creating a signature look that coordinates all their clothing and
equipment, from tack to riding boots. “For example, we have a number of clients
that have requested brown piping on everything, from their coat and boots
to nosebands and saddles, to get a total streamlined look,” she explains.
VPLs - a fashion fail
We asked Michelle what her favourite DerriereEquestrian products are, and she says
"Customers love the woman's padded shorty
in beige for under show breeches. Also, for our male clients, just like the
ladies, visible panty lines are an absolute fashion fail; that's why we all love
the men's shorty too,” she adds.
Symbiotic relationship
Derriere Equestrian’s MD Claire Galer says
currently, the brand’s Treviso training and competition breeches for ladies, as
well as the Cannes competition breeches for men, are proving very popular,
especially as they work in harmony with the Derriere undergarments. “All fabric
surfaces come together in a symbiosis that completely eliminates chaffing,
abrasions and discomfort associated with the seated element of equestrian
sports,” Claire says of the combination of Derriere’s breeches and the firm’s
iconic underwear.
